Interview with Cheerleading Coach

By: Kennedy Weaver

I interviewed Mrs. Hughes the cheerleading coach, the following questions about the BHP cheerleading teams this year. Competitive and Football cheerleading squad, these are the response I got.

1.      What are some of the goals for the cheerleading squad this year?

Striving to improve every week in competition cheer, working hard to become a great spirit squad, also at football games. But, importantly to learn life lessons through cheer.

2.      Who are some of the top cheerleader’s on the competitive team this year?

All of them they all have something special that they bring to the  team whether it is tumbling, jumps, stunts, motions, loud voice, great facials, awesome dance skills or just EXPERIENCE.

3.      In competitive cheerleading, what are some of your goals?

Of course, every competitive team strives for the goal of State Championship, but there are so many other facets to my goals. I want my kids to be proud to say they are a BHP Cheerleader so that is my biggest goal!

4.      As a team, do you think they work well together? What aspects?

As a team, they do work well together. Of course, as in any team some days are better than others. They have the knowledge to understand everyone is different, and we can learn to accept those differences and use them to benefit us or let it kill our team spirit.

5.      Does your squad enjoy cheerleading and going to all the football games?

I believe the girls, love football games. Yes they are tiring sometimes, cold and wet, but they love to see the Bears play and of course WIN!

6.      Are you sad to see your senior cheerleaders leave? What will you miss most?

Every year I am sad but these girls have a special place in my heart. They have been leaders and have helped mold the BHP tradition over the past six years!

7.      Are the older cheerleaders willing to help the newer ones on the team? Do they work well together as a whole?

Absolutely and vice versa, they all learn from each other and realize that learning is the best and most productive way to live.
